Principal’s Message

Welcome to Chula Vista High School, Home of Champions and the Land of Sparta.  I am proud to be the first female principal of this storied school steeped in spirit, generosity, and accomplishment.

This is the school where students can have it all—Academics, Athletics, and Art.  This is the school with an Attitude of winning, with the heart to “Do The Right Thing”, and where students are expected to surpass Attendance expectations.  This is the school that celebrates academic accomplishments as loudly as artistic and athletic championships.

In the 2014-15 school year, we began full implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).  We completed our WASC cycle which resulted in a very positive 3-day visit from a team who validated our self-study and which resulted in a six-year accreditation.  We entered into a partnership with the San Ysidro Health Clinic to provide medical and mental health services to our students on campus.  Our UCSD partnership to strengthen our medical pathway continued, and the funding for our Behind the Scenes Grant was renewed.  In conjunction with the School of Creative and Performing Arts, our students have been given the option to complete three career pathways, and we have added two more pathways, including Engineering and Business.  Together with the NASC Gold Council Award for ASB and our numerous athletic championships and academic awards, there is a lot to be proud of.  It was a great year.

As we begin  a new school year, we will not only look back on the great year we had and the traditions we have built but also looking forward to re-committing to our focus on instruction and student achievement to ensure that we fulfill our school mission:

To ensure all students realize their highest aspirations through a system of learning distinguished by:

  • Academic rigor across the curriculum fostering lifelong intellectual curiosity
  • A climate of respect, fairness, equality, and security promoting individual confidence and responsibility
  • A culture of collaboration between school, family, and community
  • A proactive network of student support
  • Exciting, unprecedented opportunities for student involvement
  • Creative and artistic expression
  • State of the Art Technology

This year, as part of our continuing quest to improve, our staff approved an innovative schedule to be implemented in the 2016-17 school year that will allow our students to complete their SCPA requirements during the school day, provide more opportunities to explore electives and complete graduation requirements, and allow for intervention during the school day in conjunction with a rigorous common core curriculum.  Many of our students are excited not only at the prospect of being able to join more after school activities but also at the idea of being able to pursue other interests, including Career Technical Education courses and Advanced Placement courses.

We are committed to continuing our work on planning our best to help our students learn and achieve.  We are also committed to working together as a staff and to working with our students and parents.  We look forward to our continuing partnership.

Here is to a great year!
